Update 1/24/2017

Parents,

The students have a few problems to complete on multi-step measurement word problems. Some students have one problem to do while others have two or three to complete. They should read the problem, draw it out using bar models, and then solve the problem making sure they convert units, if needed. For example, if they had over 60 minutes, they should convert that to hours.

This week we are reading a nonfiction story about the pink dolphin from the Amazon. They will practice compare and contrast along with citing text based evidence from the passage. The students are still working on their fictional narrative.

In math, tomorrow we will do more multi-step measurement word problems, review on Thursday, and test this Friday.

In social studies we are working on historical events for all the regions of the United States.

Reminders on the following that went home with your child today:

- Our fourth graders will be participating in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) on Feb. 7th, 2017.

- Field trip form to the Onslow County Museum on Feb. 14, 2017.

- Classroom group pictures to be taken this Thursday. (Students must wear their school uniform.)

Questions???

Update 1/19/2017

Parents,

Students have a worksheet to complete on algebraic multiplicative comparisons which was a similar concept to what the students learned last Tuesday. Please refer to their book if you have any questions on it. Thank you and have a good night.

Update 1/17/2017

Parents,

This week the students will be taking Middle of Year assessments on reading and math to see how much growth they have made up to this point. Their homework tonight is on pg. 67 on algebraic multiplicative comparisons. They shouldn't have too much of a problem with this homework.

They will also be finishing up their animal lap books as a culminating project on the animal unit. We are looking for students to also finish up their rough draft for their fictional narrative.

Since the quarter is over this Friday, we passed out make-up work to those students who have not completed all assignments. They need to be finished and handed in by the end of the week.

Have a good night.

Update 1/12/2017

Parents,

Due to the chapter 12 test today, Mrs. Thompson and I decided to not give the students homework tonight. They should continue to read on a regular basis each night for at least 20 minutes. Thank you and have a good night.
